grape vine

i've got 2 grape vines growing up a pergola they are 2 years old. last year they didnt grow much, should i cut them back a bit?

Grapes do need pruning, best done in cool weather. If you know the varieties, find out if they need cane pruning or spur pruning to get the best yields. Lots of how to's for both on You tube.

Trillium is right that you need to know what type they are first. :)

If you just leave them to ramble it is unlikely you will get a good crop, I'm afraid  :(

not looking for a crop really just after cover and of course i've no idea what kind they are!  ???

If that's the case, then prune it back to a framework as soon as the hard frosts are over but before it springs into life.

If you leave it too late then the rising sap from a vine can leak out badly for quite some time.

Prune it back to brown wood, close to a bud.

Years ago I grew a grape vine in a south facing lean-to greenhouse and it was like a flippin triffid. It needed serious hacking back each year so I could get into the greenhouse. Given the right conditions vines can put on an amazing amount of growth in a year.
