Thanks Aunty,  Many years ago 2 clematis grew there.    If I was planting one, I always planted two together, with the same pruning code.    So it is either "Gillian Blades" or "Lausurtern"   The former is white , the second mauve.   So I shall have to wait and see which it is.   I haven't seen any growth at all for about 15 years  !!   :D
