All our light sussex cockerels that we had were named after towns in sussex - eg Crowborough Hastings.
The boys have named the others normally named after colour - Smokey, fudge.
We currently have
Crunchie ( son loves crunchies which we cannot get here - she is the same colour
Speps ( short for Salt & Pepper - a conu/light sussex cross
Biter - used to bite everything in sight.
Smokey
Eggy - first to lay eggs
Tomboy - used to spend all the time with the boys
Squish - couldn;t see here when she was under the cockerel!
Speckle - a chick who is ....well speckley
Boink - was a chick who would jump off everything!

If I had orpingtons I would probably name them after parts of Orpington ( my birthtown and would love some)

We always said we would no name them as thy are more difficult to eat, but my children had other ideas.  Even the one that they could not think of a name for became 'no name'!

I leave it completey to the children to name them - sometimes with a little guidance!! :D

the neighbors kids wanted to name mine so i quickly named a few as i knew i wouldnt be able to go calling them all weird names
they named the following
muddy moo = light sussex
hennel = light sussex
tuiti fruity = speckledy
cherry blossom = white star

i named
lefty= warren with beak to the left
norma= warren with normal beak
shorty= warren with short top beak
elton john= cream legbar as it looks like its got a wig
bella = bluebelle
roadrunner = gold laced orpington as it runs round franticly going meep meep
lucy-fur = black rock

ive just got another 6 warrens so itl get confusing giving them names so theyl be known as the browns, in my mind anyway, im sure theyl be naming them in the next few days lol

We keep a few Ducks.
An early pair were one white and one black.
I called the white drake Dwight.
A pal of mine suggested "Black Ann" for the duck.
Ann is still with us together with (smart) Roger, Phillys and Blanco.

We have Mother Hen (Ruby) and Bossy Boots both Bovan Goldlines and names to suit their characters.
Then the four Black Rocks are Road Runner who is the hardest to catch, Emerald which is the colour of her feathers in the sun, Skye just a link to the breeds heritage and last but not least Little Miss Sunshine although she is also known as Little Miss Naughty.   :lol:

We had to put coloured leg rings on when we got them to identify them but I could take them off now and still know who is who.

We have Chucky (AKA Green), Alex (AKA White), Fudge (AKA Yellow) and Matilda (AKA Purple).

Step daughter named them all apart from Matilda and thought they were boys!!   :D

OH can't remember their names so refers to them by the colours of their leg rings!!  :D

Definitely not Casey - as a rule we do not name ours because I think it makes it more difficult when something happens to them. The exception was Miss Marple - just because of her nature.

Not at all, ours are only named as we are new to chicken keeping and it makes it easier to monitor them.

we've only got the 3 and we named them after the main character chickens in Chicken Run - sad aren't we  :)

So mine are Bunty, Babs & Ginger

Mind you we are so taken with them all we keep wondering whether to add a fourth - the hen house would only take one more - if so I keep saying she'll be called Nuts - because we'll be nuts to get another one and it would then be

Bunty, Babs, Ginger, Nuts - oh alright well I thought it was funny  ::)

We chose names that matched the breeds, so the Barnevelder is Bernadette, the Dorking was Dorcus and the Australorp was going to be Kylie as a joke, but she's Alice as it literates and because of Alice Springs.

Though the kids tend to call Bernadette just plain old Bernard.

Alice - Australorp
Bernadette - Barnevelder
Dora - Silver Grey Dorking
LilliBet - Cream Leg Bar
