Title: ericaceous compost
Post by: flopsy on March 14, 2013, 16:32
Hi has any one ever made their own ericaceous compost and if so how did you do it and what ingredients did you use?
I ask as i have been given 7 blueberry bushes about 12" high, i know they need special compost to live in but to buy enough to pot this lot on would cost to much.
Any help / advice would help
cheers pete

Not made ericaceous compost as such, but I did plant my blueberries in a big hole and backfilled it with a mixture of Irish moss peat, soil, and a little Growmore.

That should work with most soils except those containing a lot of lime/chalk, in which case perhaps a mixture of IMP and some multi-purpose would be more sensible, although it's always good to include soil if possible as it improves the overall properties of the mix.
