Poor cherry blossom
« on: May 07, 2013, 18:43 »
I planted a dwarf Maynard cherry in 2010, the first year I took all the blossom off as per instruction, last year there was loads of blossom but I didn't cover & the birds had all the fruits, this year there has been hardly any blossom at all....any ideas of where I'm going wrong ?
Thanks

Pruning cherry trees towards the end of the summer to expose the fruiting buds to the sun and air helps, as does a  good feed with a high potash feed (or blood fish & bone) once the ground thaws - 1st January this year, late February last year for us here.

Shortening new growth down to two leaves seems very drastic, but it seems to pay off in terms of blossom  ;)
