Personally I don't use it but notice on our site it is becoming increasingly popular with people.

That's really interesting. We do have problems with the plastic sheeting fraying, but hadn't thought about this aspect.

i never use plastic as a mulch.

I do use clear or translucent sheet for cold protection at the end and beginnig of the growing season. Used for a few weeks, then carefully stored away until needed again.
