walking boots not made for walking
« on: September 21, 2024, 20:23 »
Apparently!!!!
Last Christmas the good lady bought me some new walking boots, wanted some new onesfor walking the dogs.
50% is probably on the streets, 40% is walking on paths around Marton Mere and the odd time on the golden sands of the Fylde Coast.
Nine months in and they are falling apart!! Feet wet. I have been fell walking for years so I know how to look after them, they get cleaned and re-proofed. Took them back today and was told they are made for walking mountains,  couldn't help but laugh at him and he went on saying the salt and peat was degrading them, reminded him that they are cleaned when I came off the beach and I walk walk mainly on paths/ pavements.
Yes I got a new pair so let's see how long these last.

Yea got the same boot. Mountain Warehouse Trekker 2.
My others were Berghaus which last 30 years, just used for fell walking etc. I didn't want spend the Berggy amount for dog walking as I don't hit the fells anymore.

I bought some Peter Storm (I think) fabric topped walking shoes/boots with a memory foam liner. For use on the plot rather than proper walking up hill and down dale.

They are very comfortable with that liner. But it's also a real sponge when it gets wet - the squelch is NOT enjoyable
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

So here is an update/ top idea 8)

A patient came in today and we was chatting, he does a lot of fell walking and we got on to the above subject.
He stopped buying the expensive waterproof boots made of fabric as they rarely lasted 12 months. He now buys average £30 - £40 boots and... (drum roll please)
Hemy waterproof socks!
They are around £23 and he says last for ages and keep your feet warm but dry, he uses them for all sorts, walking, gardening etc and he reckons save himself loads of cash.
Just ordered a pair to try out.

Well that's something I've not heard of before!

It will be interesting to see whether they allow your feet to breathe - keep us posted with how you get on

Try these - https://www.grisport.co.uk/walking-boots-c78/mens-t76

I've been using their walking boots for years - can't remember how long, but I bought a new pair 18 months ago, and they still look fabulous and fit extremely well, despite miles of dog-walking etc.!

Their walking shoes are great too, as they're waterproof, and incredibly comfortable!

Quick update
Foot sat in a bucket of water for 15 mins, bone dry.
Been walking with them today walking Lake (the dog not windermere), very comfy, didn't sweat etc. Seem to be doing the job, only thing left... durability which time will tell.

Beware of walking boots, they’re dangerous, why are the laces so loooong! I tripped over mine on Monday & bashed my knee up, some how I caught the lace either on my other boot or something else, not the first time either.
