Evening!

I've had my plot since last summer, it was previously grazing land so I have had to do it all from scratch.  It was full of couch, stones, mallow, nettles, thistles and the usual suspects.

I'm now on the home stretch with the digging and I realised this evening just how the plot has changed since last year.  I'm really pleased with how much I've managed to do on quite short bits of time.  It's been hard work but very worth it.  Feeling quite proud!

In the ground already are potatoes, onions, shallots, asparagus, raspberries, rhubarb, broadbeans, peas,  carrots,  salsify, beetroot, parsnipsm currant bushes.  At home being grown in pots ready are brassicas of all kinds, sweetcorn, courgettes, squashes, cues, and possibly other things I've forgotten I've sown!

The weeds are already coming up, I spent ages yesterday weeding ground I cleared not very long ago.... argghh.
Still I take comfort from the fact that the nettles keep wanting to return.  They only like fertile ground don't they?

It's a pop up sun tent for the kids!  When they got bored they sat in there and played games. ...   It wasn't very interesting for them at the beginning.  Now they've got their own "plots" though and they're planting their own stuff...

I'm in a similar situation to you Penny, I got the peice of land I'm turning into an allotment last year but didn't manage to get anything done due to work. I've just been off for 2 weeks and been able to get loads done. I think it's amazing how much it starts to look like an allotment even when the grass has been removed. My plot is full of couch grass and it's heavy clay soil so it's hard work digging it all over, but as I keep telling myself 'It will all be worth it in the end'. A bit more digging this week and I'll hopefully be putting something in the ground. I've got loads of stuff at home ready to go in. Good luck with the rest of your plot

I too love these threads. Rather amazing to see a piece of ground go from a home to weeds to a productive home to produce for a family.
