Hi

Clearly I'm new so please bear with my stupid questions!!  I have bought 5 raised beds to put up tomorrow & I only have one area to put them which only gets partial afternoon sun. Will this be a major problem?

Also I need to buy the compost/soil/dirt tomorrow and am going to small local nursery to buy bags. Does anybody have any advice on what type?

Thanks in advance

5 raised beds is going to use a lot of top soil. It would be a lot cheaper to have a load of top soil dropped in bulk than buy it in bags. If you add some well rotted manure / compost you should be ready to go. Lots of veg will do fine in partially shaded areas and I'm sure the more knowledgable on here will give you a list! Good Luck
The force is strong in this one!

Welcome to the site  :)

Skywalker is right - that's potentially a lot of bags of soil / filling material.

Mixture of soil and compost / manure would be fine. But don't put it where you intend to put carrots or parsnips this year (bit late for parsnips anyway) as they will fork.

Re shade, the leafier crops prefer less sun e.g. beet, lettuce.  Some crops prefer fuller sun but if that's all you've got then give it a try.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
