hey all

ive noticed a strange dark material forming on the leafs of my sprouts

it almost looks like very dark mud and you can rub some of it off but the leaves are still marked darkly

could this be a fungus?

You have whitefly.

This is a fungal mould growing on their "honeydew" excretions.

You need to deal with the cause, not the effect - i.e. the whitefly.

yeah ive been plagued with them despite spraying a good few times.ive even "borrowed" some marigolds to try and help

is this a risk to my plants and should i do anything to tackle this black stuff

i was thinking of using some of my home made insect tape which works wonders but im afraid of getting benifiical insects too?

I get it every year, it's usually on the leaves you're not going to eat and I just leave it.
