Title: What height is your brassica cage?
Post by: Martin on March 01, 2009, 00:35
It seems that commercially available vegetable cages are 1.2m (4 feet) high.
(Such as this from Harrod Horticultural (http://www.harrodhorticultural.com/HarrodSite/product/Fruit%20and%20Vegetable%20Cages_Steel%20Vegetable%20and%20Strawberry%20cages/GDN-125.htm) or this from Knowle Nets (http://www.knowlenets.co.uk/garden/veg_cages_shop.htm)).
Unfortunately my Brussels Sprouts and Purple Sprouting Broccoli are at least 4 feet high.
Does anyone else use one of these commercially available cages? Do you find them high enough?
Maybe I need to choose different seeds :)

I make my own each year, mine are about 5 foot once the posts have been banged into the ground.  Mind you the wind blew the whole lot down last year and then the whole lot of brassicas bolted anyway so it was in truth a pointless exercise!  But am more hopeful this year with a better design of cage and plants put in the ground earlier!

I build my own, the Brussel/Broccoli section is about 6' high and the cabbage cage is about 2' high. My high section has a roll up entrance weighted down by 2 bamboo canes.
