I recently gave a 7 week buff orpington chick and its speckledy surrogate mother to a friend of mine who were setting out in the chicken world..

Today my friend reports that the now 11 week old chick has behaved odd the last couple of days, in that she found it stood on the "mothers" back trying to peck her and when my friend split them up, the chick went off and made a peculiar sound that hadn't previously been heard. This has now occurred twice in the last 24/36 hrs. The buff is now the size of the speckledy but the crown and waddles aren't very big at all.... so any ideas on whats going off would be truly grateful
