The flowers look like lilies but the leaves and wood part look shrub-like, so have just giggled them, and it could be?

unfortunately the local hoodlum kiddy gang that have made my life a misery for over 5 years now have destroyed it, I agree it is some sort of shrub because it is part of the hedging on the inside of our boundary wall and each side of it are rhododendron bushes which are mainly all the way around this is another shot taken on the same day hope this helps thankyou .

I was going to suggest it looked like a rhododendron but searched for deciduous azeleas (as suggested) and came up with this..... click and scroll down to the end of the article (http://extension.missouri.edu/p/g6825)

It certainly does seem to be a deciduous azelea.  :)
