B & Q Sweet Peas
« on: March 30, 2007, 12:45 »
For some reason I had a failure with my sweet peas this year. Not one seed germinated - everything else has been fine, so it can't have been me, must have been a duff packet!

Anyhoo, lowering myself I went to B & Q, our nearest 'garden' store to see what they had in. They were selling 12 plants for £2.98. It was obvious that there was more than one plant per each of the 12 cells.

First bonus was when the tray rang through the till at £2.22. Now have them potted on & have 77 quite healthy looking sweet peas!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Mine went in the greenhouse as usually. Tipped some out this morning - nothing to be seen!!!

Has to be the seed - can't possibly be us.

Come to think of it, mine came from Wilcos as well, shame I've not got the packet still.

I got a giant packet of 6 different sorts from the 99p shop. They've all germinated more or less, just bunged them on some wet kitchen roll till they sprouted.
Some got set back by the greenhouse incident though. Still got loads.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

That's the same variety I got from B & Q. At £2.22 for 77 plants, makes you wonder if it's worth doing your own next year!!
