Supermarket garlic may come from abroad, so may be more suited to hotter drier weather. So best avoided unless you want to experiment just to prove me wrong! I always go for Marco, as it's reliable. Like all garlic, very easy to grow. Planted mine about three weeks ago, but still not too late.
