Enviromesh
« on: March 23, 2009, 16:50 »
Hi,
Does anyone know where to buy Enviromesh at a reasonable price? I want it to cover the carrots when the are sown. Been looking on the net, but delivery seems to bump it up quite abit. I looked in Wyvale the other day and they had everything but!

Thanks
Sharon

Harrods are offering Insect netting at a reasonable price. Looks very much like enviromesh.  http://www.harrodhorticultural.com/HarrodSite/product/Plant%20Protection_Enviromesh/GDN-018.htm

Scaffolding/debris netting seems a popular cheap alternative but I have no experience of it. Perhaps other members can tell us if it has any disadvantages?

It's bl**dy heavy! OK for covering things if you're willing to make a frame, but not if you want to lightly cover something.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I've just ordered a big roll of fleece from Kays discount gardening supplies
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Thanks for this web-link.  :) I am considering investing in a few metres as a trial - mainly for protecting cabbage and cauliflowers from white-butterflies and whitefly.

The little bit of damage from carrot fly is acceptable - usually my carrots are huge so can take it. ;)

Thanks, that link is certainly cheaper than I had found. We have some scaffolding netting already, but as said, it is very heavy, I was also wondering if it was fine enough to stop carrot fly.

I also have fleece but I only brought it from Pound Land and it rips really easily.

I use the scaffolding debris netting a lot on my plot generally it is fab, I had used it over my sprouts last year to keep the birds off, it was in situ for quite a while and I hadnt checked underneath, when I eventually looked it seemed to have provided ideal conditions for that grey buggy thing!

I emailed "gardening-naturally.com" last night to ask a daft question! ::)

Prompt reply just read telling me my question wasn't so daft after all....

As the material is fairly costly and is supposed to last several seasons I wanted to know if I could bung it in the washing machine to clean it up for the following season.

"Wool setting should be fine"....... then hang it out on the line.  :)

Must discuss this use of the washing machine with the OH before hand

I put mine in the washing machine. Cannot remember if it was just on rinse or 30 degrees but it came out pristine. Did it when Mrs was out as I do with the dogs blanket.

Eight years use sounds good to me :)

Makes it an economic proposition as long as it stays put on the plot...
