Fruit Cages
« on: March 03, 2013, 12:07 »
I have just ordered 12 Raspberry canes to put into our garden plot.As we have our fair share of Birds in the garden I was wondering about protection and a fruit cage.I could move some of our strawberries into it as well rather than laying netting over them. Can anyone give me advice on buying a fruit cage and size I would need to house perhaps two lines of 6 canes per line?  Thanks.

Hi Mike

Something like this image, but they are nearly £50

Whereas I bought 2 pair of garden arches from Ebay at about £17 for a pair that I am going to rig up something similar for my runner beans.  You could get something like that and cover with cheap netting, or I have made one in the past for my blackcurrant bush out of canes cable tied together and covered with the cheap pond netting out of Wilkinsons.
