Flowering peace lily
« on: June 17, 2013, 14:43 »
Was given a potted peace lily 3 years ago, flowering at that time, then nothing.........Until now, is this the norm for these or is it just being temperamental? Thanking you kindly  :)
It's like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder how i keep from going under......

You're lucky yours came back at all as I find that potted ones disappear after the 2nd year. You might get greens but flowers are iffy, even with fertilizer added.

After they finished flowering, I've been planting mine directly in the ground and a few come back for a few years, but not all. It could be that they were forced or pot-grown which is not particularly great for lilies. Lilies, contrary to popular belief, do not have a long life to begin with, maybe 7 years with good handling.

As much as I don't like to contradict  :nowink: we've had our Peace Lilies about 20 years. It was one small plant then, but we've split it and got 2 big ones.

I'm not going to say that they flower as well as they did when we got it, but we generally get 3 or 4 flowers a year. I have to admit that we're not that good in giving them attention and we really ought to repot/feed/split more often!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

They're definitely unpredictable. Mine disappeared for 3 years and this year shoots sprouted from where one used to be, but no flowers.
