wow! I am so impressed, words fail me. Wow
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

Thanks everyone. :)

I'm sorry to say that a the moment its far from peace and tranquility, more death and destruction.  :(
I've set mink traps but just cant catch the *%$* thing. >:(
Kingfishers returned this year, hadn't seen any here for 3 years following the last  harsh winters and I'm just waiting to find a pile of blue and orange feathers. :(

Your very own paradise Spana. You must be thrilled; I can well imagine how it looked 9years ago.

So sorry about the ducks ...... that was my first thought on seeing the photo. Mink are dreadful things, do hope you catch it.

No. :(

I've set one of the traps up as a sort of den, covered in branches and leaves.  I've been told to smear 'going off' fish paste around the entrance so going to do that, and to wear gloves when i touch the trap.
Our neighbour has lost 70 ducks to it   His game keeper has sat and watched for it but hasn't managed to get it so I dont know how much chance i have.
The island here is littered with mallard carcasses but i haven't found any fish remains at all which is strange
I'm waiting on one of those little infra-red wildlife cameras, when that is set up i hope it will give me a little bit of an advantage.

I've never come in contact with such a killer in my whole life :( Foxes are nothing compared to this :(

try baiting it with a bit of meat rather than a smear of fish paste.
Staffies are softer than you think.

try baiting it with a bit of meat rather than a smear of fish paste.

It is baited with meat at the moment Joy, but the thinking is, mink are so inquisitive that you dont need bait in the trap, what they like is to investigate holes and burrows.  The fish paste is to bring them to the entrance of the trap, they will then be unable to resist going into the hole -which is the disguised trap entrance and  hey presto.

Sounds too easy doesn't it :(

Escapees from mink farms in Sussex caused huge & wide spread damage a few years back. Nasty little critters!

Good luck with the trap.

we have them here as they swim along the beck next to us - this year alone I have lost about 20 birds. However the local farmers and gamekeepers are active in their control. I have a trap but so far not used it. Since getting adopted by a local ferral cat we haven't had any more attacts so not sure if it is the cat or the locals responsible
