Hi all,
A neighbour of mine has a lovely yellow flowering shrub that looks like Rudbeckia Goldsturm, Black Eyed Susan. I want to grow this & was wondering what tips you can give me. Can I take a cutting now? Or should I grow it from seed next spring. Any tips will be great fully received.

You could ask your neighbour if they would give you a root cutting in the spring. Seeds however will give you many more plants. I Fancy growing some from seed myself as I love rudbekias but never grown the perenials.

I've got about 30 Rudbeckia growing in 3" pots that I sowed in spring, dead easy and great germination. They got a bit potbound and dried-out in 2" pots and a few even flowered this summer from the stress I think!
looking forward to next year!

Hi All,
You may have already seen my post regarding a perennial plant my neighbour has got & I posted asking was it Black Eyed Susan aka Rudbeckia Goldsturm.
Well here some photos of the plant to help in identification.
So what do you all think it is ? Is it as I thought Rudbeckia Goldsturm ? It is about 1.2 metres high, the RHS plant finder has Rudbeckia Goldsturm at 60cm

I've merged your threads together to keep it tidy ;)
It certainly looks like Goldsturm :)

Really jealouse.I've never manager to germinate a Goldstrum seed after loads of attempts. The latest attempt is vernalising in a rather cross mother in laws fridge as we speak/type.I just look on the bright side.Even if I don't get seedlings it's riled the old goat a bit :D

If anyone wants rudbeckia seeds, I have lots - the only caveat is that they are old - my Mum stashed seed packets at the back of a kitchen drawer for many years. I'm keeping the ones that expired in 1983 for next year's 'will they grow' experiment. :D

This time of year is a bit late for cuttings, but root divisions are perfect. Or, start seed now for next year.
That could be rudbeckia Goldstrum, or possibly with that height Rudbeckia Hirta or a variety of helianthus. I've never seen Goldstrums grow that tall before. i have them in my garden and they usually grow about 30-36".

My goldsturm is only 24ins tall -- maybe it is because it is so windy at the plot.
Grew them from cheap plug plants last year
