That's because the hardy folk of Yorkshire have scared off the virus!  :D

Seriously, they're opening centres and GP surgeries as fast as they can.

A few places are vaccinating, I suppose it just depends where you are on the list, and if the vaccines arrice. Does your GP have your phone number so they can get in touch easily?

Hello I've just heard that the new vaccination centres are open, there isn't one in Yorkshire

There's to be one at Leeds United, and one at Huddersfield stadium. Both in West Yorkshire. I don't expect there to be one in North Yorkshire.

Did anyone see the clip on the news where they were interviewing a pensioner about getting vaccinated? She was offered a jab at either of her 'local' sites - one 60 something miles away and the other 70 something (IIRC) She answered that her mobility scooter only did 4 miles per charge!
I know it's a serious situation, really -  but it just cracked me up

It’s such an enormous task that there are bound to be a few problems.  Far better to focus on the amazing success of producing, manufacturing and distributing a vaccine in under a year.

And the UK was the first in the world to do it.

The Welsh government publish a map showing the current vaccination points which they are intending to update as more places come onstream.

The plan (subject to supply) is to get everyone over 70 and frontline workers done by mid-February with all adults offered a jab by the Autumn.

If you think it through the priority list for distribution makes sense. Without doctors and nurses able to function we're going to be in a very bad way. Then protect those most at risk which will not just reduce deaths but also pressure on the NHS

I'm expecting we'll get done in early March and have some level of immunity 3 weeks later. The next crunch is going to be second doses but they have 12 weeks to get ready. I'm sure they will be.

I'm booked in for mine tomorrow at 5 past 5, it's quite a long bus journey, with a change, to get there though.
Mask, gloves and sanitiser required for the journey methinks  ::)

What you need is a full NBC suit!

Aren't you scared that Bill Gates has put a chip in vaccine and will be tracking you? Or that you will turn into a monkey when you get home?  :D

Our GPs have it organised to start next week.  They are partnering up with another local practise so one does the jabs and the other deals with everything else.  Sounds like a good plan to me  :)

I am getting a bit tired of the media scouring the country for stories to dishearten people.  It is a pandemic, things are not perfect and no, it is not fair ... on anyone ...

But, we have an amazing NHS who are treating the really sick despite huge and unprecedented pressures, immunising the rest of us and all for free. I know we will pay for it in taxes, but cost is not going to stop anyone getting treatment or a jab. The armed services, pharmacies and volunteers are wading in to help.  Retired medical staff are also rolling up their sleeves and joining the fray.

We should be proud of them all  :D

Lovely example this morning on the radio - former speaker decides she's a scientist on the basis of taking information our of context and in isolation followed by some idiot rabbiting on about the consent form being a contract and so the government must give a second dose in 3 weeks.
Perhaps they should isolate for 5 years whilst comprehensive studies are done and to give them chance to write a proper 500 page contract!
Fact is a lot of people who know their subject in depth make recommendations to the government - you can trust them or Tracey from Facebook who can barely write a coherent sentence on her mobile phone.
Oh no! I've caught the grumpy virus this morning

Godmother, age unknown, but over 90, had her first jab yesterday.  Two buses and short walk to the excel centre.  She took sandwiches, thermos and hip flask in her walker.  The queue was a bit of a bind but she had a book to read.  I am reliably informed that the place was full of delightful young soldiers and if she was a few years younger.  ....  She got the jab.  Laughing aside she said it was a bit of a performance getting there and back but is more than happy with the way things went

Chums are being done in Headcorn on Monday, and they live a few yards down from 'The Turrets'.

I checked online, and the story is that we have to go to Hastings, when it's our turn!

Growster, it was the Practice with the biggest premises that did them here in Ashford. Just unfortunate, for me, that it was over the other side of town - although not actually that many miles away. But well worth the journey IMO

Mum had hers done on Tues afternoon - very quick and efficient.  Brilliant birthday present for her.

It did need my brother to drive her the 10 miles or so to the centre, but he was happy to take a day off work for a reason like that.

There are more and more options for vaccination opening up.  The advice for those unable or unwilling to travel is to sit tight until those extra sites appear.  No need to lose your liver over it

Personally I think it is a great example of how this country can do things when we put our minds to it.  Standing start to being on track to getting the top tiers their first jabs by mid Feb.  I say a big thank you to everyone involved  :)

If they make this an annual jab, then my b*m will be like a pin cushion in the Autumn, with flu, B12 and the covids!

Luckily, our lovely nurses have the touch of a feather...

(I think Headcorn Aerodrome is getting up to speed now, anyone in Kent)!

Ticehurst, just over the border in East Sussex, is our place according to an elderly neighbour who went there yesterday!

It's a good central place, as there's a regular bus service if anyone needs it!

The north east has done so well getting its vaccine programme in place that we are losing supplies to the less organised areas!!!!!

Mind, I was in and out in about 10 minutes even given that I used the zimmer frame from entry to exit not yet being certain enough on the crutches (who'd have the fun of training a replaced knee  just to add to things)

My mum got hers but had to travel a small distance as her local surgery didn't have the kit to store the Pfizer jabs.  A local cab company were doing a deal - £20 all in and they wait for you to come out and take you straight home again.

It is worth checking if anyone local to you is doing the same if you can't drive yourself  :)

Locally, we have a voluntary 'taxi' service, available to the elderly/infirm for hospital/physio appointments that charge a token fee - they have extended the service to cover vaccinations.
So yes, well worth doing a search locally to see if there's something similar near you  :)

Saturday's number of vaccinations given was fantastic - they're really getting this one right. Looking forward to getting our jabs in due course, probably March.
My 77 year old neighbour had his on Saturday :)
My pal in France will be getting his in 2023/24 at the present rate - but he's got a lot of wine to drown his sorrows whilst he waits.

Mrs Growster and I had the call last week, and were invited to Headcorn Aerodrome on Sunday morning!

It was almost a carnival affair, with smiling faces everywhere!

It's so good to see the 'normal' (as opposed to the 'idiot') press and even the BBC, ringing the praises for the way UK Inc. has got its act together! Contrary to their usual negativity, there's not much to moan about now so maybe we'll get even more good news in the next few weeks...

Post by: mumofstig on February 02, 2021, 15:45
Not all the vaccines have the 15 min wait time- only the ones that have a risk of an allergic reaction.
People react differently and feeling unwell for a few days is within the normal range.

I hope he's feeling better now.

i had my first one today at my surgery.  Really well organised, straight in and didn't feel a thing. Fifteen minutes' waiting and back home again.  Hopefully my husband will have his soon, but when I checked with his surgery to make sure his details were correct, we found that they had de-registered him because he hadn't been for such a long time (42 years).  Re-registered this morning, and should hear soon about an appointment.

You were right to be suspicious jezza.  If they have to ask you for details, it is dodgy.  If it was the surgery calling, they would know exactly what your history was as it can affect the type of vaccine they offer you.
