Poorly Jemima
« on: April 23, 2009, 17:18 »
Can anyone help?

I have let the hens out for a wonder around the garden this evening and one of them seems to not be doing a lot.

I have had a full complement of eggs today so I don't think it s any thing to do with that.  She is just standing around with her feathers puffed up and not really eating a lot (just not behaving normally).

Does anyone know what this is? I am going to see how she is and if not any better probably take her to the vets.

Many thanks

Andy

Although she laid today, she maybe harbouring a soft shelled egg for tomorrow, these symptoms, seem to be familiar for a number of ailments.  Sometimes they are just 'off' for a day.....see how she goes & let us know if there are any changes.

A couple of my girls have been like this lately & I think it's been due to "soft egg" issue. It's knocked the stuffing out of them so to speak & made them ever so poorly.

I have one that is doing an occasional soft egg and that sounds like her symptoms.  Once she has got rid of it and had a couple of hours 'rest' she is fine until the next one.  She does have shell and grit available at all times but it seems to be a spell she is going through.
