Title: chick with mucky bottom
Post by: bantam novice on May 08, 2011, 16:28
Well my two chicks seem to be dong fine with mother Bianca.  Yesterday I was watching and noticed that the littlest chick had some dried pooh on its bottom.

This afternoon when I was watching again it seemed to be straining a couple of times but I saw no pooh coming out.  I got some warm water and a kitchen towell and, much to its annoyance, I dabbed at its backside gently to clean the pooh off.

I hope I did the right thing.  Do chicks often get mucky bottoms while they are learning?  This one is only 10 days old.

the chick probably has pasty bum and it needs removing asap, try getting it off with your fingers or if that fails with a damp cloth.

Thanks Joy,
I used a damp kitchen towell again and although there is still a little staining the vent area seems to be clear!  :)
