aunty, do you lock your chickens in at night or can the door be left open on the eglu if used with the run. oh and yes quite right i want 3 chooks and no cocks thanks as i said i like a lay in  :)

nzdunn, thank you so much for the great link. it was exactly what i was thinking of doing as i could put the hens down the side alley of the house and gate it off. they would be on concrete as well so nice and easy to clean. would you need to insulate in summer if you provided vents and  left one door open during the day. also did you insulate the wendy house during last winter or were your girls ok in there. i thought chickens were ok in cold weather as long as they were out of draughts and direct elements.

I do shut the eglu at night kelsgirlsx

Mainly because I want them to stay in bed until I get up.  I don't want them shouting for me at 4 a.m. in June which is when they would choose to get up.

I always thought the eglu could be disassembled for cleaning, which would mean no hiding palces for mites.
My diy timber house will have to be torched if I get them  ::)

well total change of plans im afraid, i went down to the diy store to get one and on looking at it, it was far to big for my 3 girlies, didnt look that big on the internet, it just didnt look water tight either so we decided against it,  went round loads of shops but couldnt find anything,  so instead we went and got a lovely dog kennel its gorgeous and just the right size for the 3 girlies, its lovely and cosy for them and its wooden, not wot i wanted but i had to get something for them,  so we are all happy now.     nickyx

Nicky, just poultry shield regularly and diatom every time you clean out - this should keep on top of things. joyxx
