any of you who read my blog know how big and heavy my chookhouse is. The run i am building is designed to be 'transportable', that is it will dismantle into panels to be moved.

The chookhouse on the other hand took four of us to move it. So i was wondering, provided i use suitably wide ones to prevent it sinking on soft ground, is there any problems likely with putting it on wheels?  


ive just received off freecycle a copy of the 4th ed. 1957 book 'modern poultry husbandry', some lovelly traditional house designs in it.

go for it mate its a tried and tested method of moving them,the old keepers here used to have about  20 houses on wheels and they would move them from field to field at harvest times so the birds could clean up the fallen wheat etc , i wish i could do it sometimes lol

i have 4 pump up jobbies of an invalid carriage ur welcome to if u wanna sort out gettin em they is brand new ,wont tell ya who isnt on the road cos i got em tho   plastic wheels may not be strong enough for ya job come to think of it

Not sure how i would get them from your neck of the woods to up here in darkest north yorkshire, but i'll bear it in mind if i cant find any local (unless you find a use for em first of course)

Just found a wheeled design in this book ive just got. Theres a whole section on building houses of every type. Mind you, the book was written just after the war, when books really were informative.It covers everything from keeping a couple of bitrds up to keeping thousands for a business. Ive just read the section on despatching and preparing, having a strong cuppa now to calm down :shock:

probably one the books i used when i was a kid apex shed with 4 iron wheels and a nice door with a ramp n pop hole
