Hi Cati -are your hens freeranging during the day? If they are they may be finding most of their food that way. Are the sussex laying yet?
I would be tempted to withhold treats in the afternoon they will probably start on the layers then.

Yes They Are Freerangeing In A Large Area .No They Are Not Layeing But They Shouldnt Be Long (Finger Crossed).

The Only Thing That Is Worrying Me Is If We Dont Give Them The Treats Is That They Arnt Eating Then Becausse I Dont See Them Digging Alot .But They Also Have Another Problem Wether Its A Part Of The Eating Thing I Dont Know But The Four Of Them Seem To Have Watery Poo. We Dont Have Any Problems With The Silkies And They Are Getting Exactly The Same But They Are Older So They Are Laying.

Hens are very crafty and quite intelligent - They really are

In scientific test it has been shown that their reasoning powers can out do a 6 year old child - honest  :!:

They can learn that food they like better will be offered later in the day so they will refuse the food they don't want and wait for the treats.  That's what the research said  :!:

They seem to have learnt that you give them tasty treats in the pm so it's best to wait tell then to fill up.

So Cati, can you out-smart a chicken  :?:

Not sure about the runny poo (a piccie if you can post one Cati) but it could just be diet.

Try getting them on to a good diet and no bread and milk, even keep them in their run for a couple of days so they have to eat the pellets

Tomorrow i will try and get a piccie bt it just looks like a puddle of water with a little bit of hard stuff in it but thats about all .

Do you think this is a big problem or is it just a thing that happens to alot of people?

I don't know at the moment Cati.  It could just be poor diet.

Have they been dooing these watery poos for long  :?:

Are they always watery  :?:

Do they live with the silkies  :?:

How old are they  :?:

How long have you had them  :?:

Where do they free range and for how long each day :?:

That might give us some clues  :D

OK...  if they seem fit and well and really want their afternoon feed I think they are probably fine.

Don't give them any other food than pellets until they are eating properly.  But as well as the pellets you should give them some greens in the afternoon.  Green cabbage, spinach, broccoli, that sort of thing.

BUT NO TREATS  :!:

my chooks are loving cabbage leaves. They throw them about  and one was wondering about with one its back for ages the other day :D  They turned their nose up at spinach yesterday but I tried again today and they loved it.  I quartered a cabbage for them today rather than giving them the leaves and they pecked at it on and off all day and there's nothing left so that kept em occupied.
