How close do you shave it this time of year? Do you give it all a number one or leave a few leaves?
Sorry if this has been asked before.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I gave mine a "number 2" haircut last weekend and added the leaves to my giant compost bin.

Haha, just had a thought.  There were still some cuttings in little pots, so when I had a clear out the other day, I emptied the pots and gave the cuttings to the chickens as there's a lot of goodness in comfrey.

So watch this space for pics of giant chickens soon!!!!!!!

Checkens also like Fat Hen - there is a lot of it about now beginning to set seed, so pull it up and feed the chooks! It will come back next spring, but just keep pulling it up (eat the nice young stuff yourself!)
Keep the plot cultivated, that's the best way to ensure its future.

In L D Hills' book on comfrey, he mentions that the chooks prefer it wilted for a day before serving. Also good for cattle and pigs apparently.

Thanks for that John, I'll remember when I nexzt give them some.

Oliver, yes, I've already found out how much they like fat hen. We've LOADS of it around here.  Not tried it myself yet, prefer to see the chooks go mad over it.

We put them into the other half of the run today, which was quite overgrown, but they've eaten it down to the ground already!!!!  And as its rained all day today, the place is like a quagmire!!!
