Preparing ground for greenhouse - urgent!

My new greenhouse has arrived, and we were hoping to erect it this weekend. However my OH has got the jitters about getting the ground absolutely level. He has decided its impossible, and the greenhouse will sink and warp and break the glass. The ground its going on is an ex-lawn and part of an old border (just a mud patch now - with the odd plant that needs moving)>. Has anyone got any tips for leveling the ground and ensuring the aluminium base won't warp? I'd just go for it but OH is such a worrier! All suggestions welcome.

A greenhouse isn't so very very heavy. What type of base are you using?

Its just an aluminium frame base which came with the greenhouse.

We dug out foundations, filled base with sand, put brieze blocks in, got them level, then bolted the frame to the brieze blocks.

This also made a barrier to stop weeds creeping through.

I agree with Sally. Railway sleepers also make great foundations.

Yup, you need something to fix the aluminium base on to. Mine's fixed to concrete but sleepers would be fine. Make sure they are secured to the ground and the base is fixed to them. Otherwise a strong wind could... :shock:

Sleepers give you a bit of extra height, too.

it will never blow away with glass in it . and if it is not quite level the vents wont seal :roll: oh dear

I made a frame from 3x3" tanalised timber with posts in each corner. Levelled this off in the ground first and stuck greenhouse on top. Easy peasy and cheap too. You could use larger timber if you want.

I used the "Old railway sleeper" trick. I've had no problems so far, and I am the "complete nutter" that just whacks it up.
