I bought a Mantis Electric last year, 750 watt motor (1.1hp). I am very satisfied with it and being electric it's so quiet it doesn't disturb the neighbours (even if you were using it at 1.0am).

Working backwards?
Think about it, the rotors are cutting downwards and lifting the machine with a normal Rotavator so you have to have weight in the machine.
The Mantis is different, pulling backwards the rotors are cutting upwards against the earth, this keeps it in to depth without weight in the machine.

I have no problems with the Mantis and my garden is heavy clay, but as with all machinery, the soil must have the right moisture content for tilling.
