grass box query
« on: March 09, 2017, 15:57 »
Wasn't quite sure where to post this thread, but here goes.
A couple of years ago OH bought me a light weight electric Bosch mower so that I can lift it up and down the step.
The problem is the plastic grass box is cut out along the sides, into a small type of  criss-cross fret work, I guess this helps the lightness.  The trouble is the grass flies put through these little holes into the flower-beds and gravel-beds.  They then of course root !!!!.  Can anybody suggest a way of blocking these holes off, and thus reducing my weeding :D.  Any ideas please, regards, Mrs Bouquet

Duct tape, diy stores. It is grey and very tacky.

Mrs B, I think you'll find that you need the mesh open, as the draught from the rotary blades chucks the grass back into the box, so the 'pressured' air needs an escape route through the mesh!

You could perhaps use Grinling's idea and stick a finer mesh - like sticking a piece of debris netting along the sides, and that may well help, but there has to be a way for the blow-through to get away, otherwise, it won't pick up the grass properly!

If you don't want to go to the expense of the netting, PM me, and I can easily let you have a chunk - I've got loads of the stuff!

Do you mean that sort of green wind-break mesh type stuff, and I think there is some duct tape knocking about somewhere.  Oh I have just had a thought, I've got an old bit of net curtain, would that do the trick ??. thanks for your answers, Mrs Bouquet

Hmm, you grass shouldn't root unless it's got seeds on it, try cutting the lawn more often then just riffle the borders wher it chucks out the grass, itcwill add hummus to the border. Just thinking out of the box so to speak 😊
