ok my petrol strimmer is on its last legs, I have cosseted it and coddled it, tweaked it and twiddled it, but there is no getting round the fact it is dying. so what to replace it with, I already have 2 electric strimmers, but no power at the plot.
This got me to thinking and digging around in my shed, I have a spare car battery, and miraculously a 1KW inverter (2KW surge), so I decided to see if I could do something with these. the strimmer is only 250W so the inverter will have no problems.
well I found some suitable cables to wire it to the battery, and plugged in the strimmer - yay it worked.
so now I do some calculations and reckon the battery will give me 1 1/2 hours at 250W (to bring the battery to 50% capacity) which should be plenty just to do the paths round my 2 half plots.
and the good bit - no smelly petrol strimmer to lug around.

well proof that the concept at least works (even if the strimmer isnt quite up to the length of grass that there, got 2/3 of my paths done in about an hour then ran out of strimmer line on the strimmer.
battery is now charging up again.

strimmer cord replaced and strimmer stripped down to remove string wedged around shaft.
