Quote from: "shaun"
does the spud lifter run direct centre behind your machine frankie, the reason i ask is how do you cope traveling down the ridges or does your wheels straddle them,
the same question for a ridger i can see it doing it once but after that it must get a bit awkward cus the wheels will be riding on your ridges if you know what i mean  :?

Yes Shaun it runs in the center of the wheels, so ground clearance is a big problem. The honda clears the ground about 160mm which is not much. But the wheel centers are adjustable so I put the rows in wide then narrow the wheels as much as poss and go down the trough for earthing up. Also the baker has adjustable ears so you can flatten the top of the banks until the stems are up.
always have a target
and an objective.

Just had a great idea  I will make a pre lifter to put on the front hitch to take off the top of the ridge to the height of the ground clearance.
This will also spread the ground a bit and make it easier to lift the spuds.

The wheels are about 550mm (2 foot) It looks tall but the diff is fat limiting the ground clearance. It also has a hex shaft for the wheels so
making the hub for the wheels without a slotting machine is difficult. I do not fancy filling hubs!! Shaun is right pushing the taty lifter is a better option.

well its all to do with the time you have and how big your allotment is. These factors will determine how much you rely on machinery to reduce the time spent on jobs usually done by hand on the allotment. My self I find it hard to do all the work by hand. Are old alltment was 60' by 20'. Our new one is about 100m by 100m which is a task by hand with a full time job. So mechincal help I find necessary. So the Honda will have to get dirty. But i will give it a wash :D

How is the manufacturing going Jimmy. I have nearly finished drawing up MK11 and I will start on it tomarrow. I have tried to design it so that it can be made without Lathes and other industrial equipment. Just house hold hand tools, Jigsaw, drill and welder. Hopfully it will only take a few hours to make!!!!! :)

Your not going to believe this Frankie! it works a treat, carrots are 8-9inches long and it lifts them no problem traction is the only drawback because of the wet so hopfully in a couple of days it will dry up enough to get them lifted. I hate digging them by hand, I have a spare set of wheels for my 700, I might put them on as well see if it makes a difference

have you thought about turning the tyres around you will getter better traction, the reason they go on the way there meant to is they self clean.might be worth a go
