Daft sprout question.

When staking sprouts, how near should the stake be to the plant? I reckon it needs to be a reasonable distance because of the thickness of the stalk, especially when it's full of sprouts.

As you have pointed out sprout stems are veru thick, so why so they need staking? I have planted thousands of sprouts and never heard of staking them...... correct spacings and they will be fine

I haven't ever staked mine, I think you would only stake them if your site is prone to strong winds, one of mine a few years ago did fall to one side but didn't really affect the production of sprouts  :) :)

Yeah - mine the odd time have been blown to the side a bit in strong wind but still been fine (well except the whitefly!!!) - so i wouldnt bother staking either
