warmth on the wintry day
« on: November 14, 2013, 19:53 »
Today I had the sewing machine out so made a cushion cover out of an old towel and covered a slab of poystyrene.  A warm sitting zone for mah lil girls while I'm away this weekend.
One grandma and 4 baby Pekins.

They'll really appreciate a thick litter floor, one strewn with herb leaves and maybe some cracked corn to search for.

Well - noticed a hole in the towel today and on further inspection loads of polystyrene gone!   Had no idea they''d eat though a towel !!!!   Not such a good idea after all.

They seem totally unaffected - two of them laying now and all seem fine.

But it's still not a great idea if they're eating it. Silly birds will eat anything.

Some hens seem to love eating polystyrene.  We've had posts before about them attacking polystyrene boxes people were growing stuff in.  As Trillium says, probably best to remove the temptation and stop them eating any more  :)

My hens used to eat polystyrene if they saw any,I really worried about it when they first did it,they were ok,but I used to make a mad dash to get it before them if I saw any blowing about.
