Title: Tomato leaves turning brown
Post by: Muddywaters on June 02, 2013, 21:56
My Tom plants were left on the window sill this year waiting for warm weather to plant in the green house. Consequently they were leggy when planted. The lower leaves have turned brown & have curled. Some leaves have gone brown at the tips. The tops of the plants are healthy & have flowers on them. I've cut some of the lower leaves off. Has anyone get any other advice?

Mine did the same, and i did the same too!  Now have long stems, with green bits on top and bare bottoms.

Mine have done the same, poorly lit windowcill at home, leggy etc, planted out last weekend in the greenhouse.

I think it is the now direct sunlight being too much for the leaves to cope with, they are used to really poor light indoors and now are in full on sunlight.  The new ones at the top are ok because they are newer and more adaptable.

I might be spouting nonsense, but thats my understanding of it.  Last year I had the same and it didnt affect them in the end.

Bear in mind that greenhouses have immense temp fluctuations with the hot sun at present.
