What should i use to feed my baby leeks ?
« on: April 14, 2011, 23:58 »
I have 2 old washing up bowls full of leeks growing quite nicely. They are a lot bigger than the ones this time last year!

Not sure the compost will have much nutrients left in it now so was wondering how best to feed them..

Should I use the tomato feed liquid or try to soak some manure (from a bag from garden centre) in a water butt and use that ?

I feed my seedlings with liquid seaweed ( Wilkinsons) at half strenght, once a week, until they are ready to plant out.
There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.

any liquid feed will do, but I'd try to avoid tomato feed as the NPK values in that will encourage them to bolt.

I get Maxicrop liquid seaweed from the allotment shop  :)  I'd use that or the Wilko brand  :)

Defo agree with her highness above.
I have used maxicrop for several years now and swear by it, never tried the wilkos brand, to be honest never seen at our not so local one but I am sure it is much of a likeness. One bottle of half litre lasts ages.

At what price? Mine charges £4.90 but doesn't state the quantity on the price list. Probably 1 litre. From prices I see on the internet, that doesn't seem too cheap, but then there's P&P. Must look at what gerden centres charge.
