Title: Potatoes
Post by: Anton on June 10, 2015, 14:58
Every year my potatoes eventually succumb to blight. I cut off the tops and then wait a few weeks for the infection on the top to die away after which I lift up the potatoes. At the moment they are all looking very healthy.
My earlies are flowering. Are they too small to start harvesting now (I would like to be able to eat some before blight strikes)? I heard somewhere about waiting for two weeks or so after flowering.

You could always have a furtle around and see if there's anything big enough to eat.   I had a look last night and they are still too small, I think the cold weather has set them back.

You don't necessarily have to wait till first earlies have flowered, this may depend on variety.

Thanks. Could I uncover them a little bit and recover them?

Yes, and water them if the soil is dry.
