Pigeon damage a new one!
« on: June 06, 2016, 12:12 »
Hi all,

I know Pigeons can be disastrous to vegetable crops,  but I noticed they are on the cherry tree and the red current bush eating the newly formed fruitlets and leaves? - is this a new phenomenon or just something I have not noticed before.  The red currents are now netted way before the black birds begin their attack.

Hi Mike,

The wood pigeons here do it as well, but only during early spring when the leaves are young. On our plot it is particularly the plum trees that are stripped, although this year, they have been friendly and largely staid away.

All the best,

Maarten

One of my plot neighbours has just had his gooseberry bushes completely stripped of fruit. That will teach him to scoff at my fruit cage. :tongue2:

Vile things, aren't they? Almost as if they enjoy destroying things! Eating ripe fruit is one thing but it's the pecking of completely immature fruit that gets me upset. Basically my plot is one big net now lol!! Only way to actually get a harvest...
