garlic may or may not show before the New Year.  Much the same timing as daffodils, really

Yes, I apply a 2-3" mulch of well rotted manure.

As I've mentioned in other posts, you can also oversow with fenugreek but it might be a tad late for that now.

Naaaawww ???  Green shoots from a planting 2 weeks ago?  Can you post a piccie please.

Did you have heavy rain last night? Maybe the soil has sunk.

Garlic is very frost-hardy (otherwise we wouldn't plant it in October).

Well b*gger me!  Apart from growing horizontally, these look great

Good thing is that you'll be able to see the rows & hoe off any late season weeds.

How deep did you plant 'em BTW?

Same here - I planted mine three weeks ago - in the wrong place, dug them up a week later and put them in the right place - and they are now three inches high!!

2" possibly a bit more, the tops of the cloves where covered about 1/2 inch as a guess

seams like ages ago i set them

im still going to mulch them when i can get to the farm to get some more manure go that will give them a but more depth if i havent planted them deep enough

No sign of my garic yet, but at least I know what to look for.

The broad beans I stuck in about 10 days ago are just poking through though.

It will be too awkward to mulch now - you will cause too much damage to the shoots.  Don't worry about planting depth; the clove you planted rots away & a new bulb will form at the correct depth.

For the record, I'd be planting porcelain garlic at about the same depth, maybe a little deeper & then adding a 2" manure mulch.
