I'm in the process of building a planter 160cm x 110cm x 45cm. My first question, is there a set ratio of top soil to multipurpose compost I need does it need mixing together? And secondly is it ok to plant straight away or does it need to settle ?

Thank you, I'll b putting a polythene frame on as well for a lid. Do the new seeds need cover from the start or just in bad weather ?

This time in the year almost anything will germinate without protection.

Lettuce seed won't if it is too hot though, so keep that shaded a bit
