Title: New to growing!
Post by: plumcrazi_2005 on April 24, 2006, 09:11
:D hi everyone,
My partner and I have just invested into a ten pole plot, and we are hoping to grow many fantastic veg this year.  We have two children and want to give them some ground each to grow whatever they want ..... but does anyone have any ideas what kind of things they would be better to start off with??   :?

Have you tried asking them what they'd like to grow? Pumpkins are popular with kids but be prepared to train them around what space you have or else they'll take over the whole plot. Radishes and lettuces have quick germination time but I'm not sure many kids are happy to eat those

runner beans or climbing French beans tend to really impress kids as they grow so big.

They're a pretty safe and easy crop as long as they don't get frosted,

My girls want to grow:
giant pumpkin, melon, red carrots, purple sprouts, little gem lettuces, radish and peas...however they are just not growing fast enough except for the pumpkin which burst out of the seed and just GROWING! The first couple of leaves were enormous!
