Hi. My sprouts and brocoli were doing very well and then suddenly they have problems.  I have grown them before in a different area and they were okay.  The leaves on the sprouts have gone a little mottled with tinges of yellow and in most cases they are purple.  The early sprouting brocoli is very pale and also has leaves which are yellow/purple.  They both had a little greenfly but nothing to worry about.  The soil has been limed and manured prior to planting.  They were doing very well until a couple of weeks ago.  Advice greatly appreciated.

Is it downy mildew?

Are they all yellow/discoloured? Its common for brassicas to develop some yellow/discoloured leaves at the bottom and they should be removed.

Are they well firmed down? Some of the winds parts of the country have recently had may well have weakened them slightly, so they could need a good stamping around the roots.

It does sound like some kind of deficiency though, have you been feeding them? Were the lime and manure added at the same time?

I have been feeding them a high nitrogen feed but have done it only a couple of times so far. I manured the soil about 2 months before I limed it.  I have already removed some leaves but some of the newer leaves are a bit yellow.  I think the brocoli is beyond repair.  I'll take some photos tomorrow.
