As I am digging up my Arran Pilots & Kestrel for eating ... what is the best plant to put in after them please?...what is considered good practice to plant after in the space vacated by spuds?

Leeks, certainly.

If you have no leeks & want to hold on a little while, spring cabbage & caulis.

Most folk grow a much larger area of tatties than anything which can follow them.  Leeks are traditional & work well.   Try some coriander if you like it.

Pile on manure ready for your garlic bed & take a catch crop of coriander, fenugreek or lettuce

I am folowing withsalad catch crops and as WG says manure for garlic,thought I might try a few over wintering onions this year.Unfortunatly OH planted first earlies(rocket and aaron pilot) inbetween later varieties so I can`t put leeks there as they would get no light!
