pleased carrots have done well still go lots to go at. will use a lot for soup and some for roasts. I don't mind grating and dehydrating some for soup. But would I be better lifting the rest and freezing as and when I have time after the end of sept for roasting or can I leave them in. Its a clay soil but is very well drained I've added sand and it is on the top of the hill.

Leave 'em in the soil Ma'am.

Forget all this nonsense of boxes of peat etc; are we made of money?

They'll be OK, but after all, they're only carrots aren't they!

Leave them in. Freezer space is too valuable for carrots. You may loose a few to slugs. Mice/voles may chew them. Cover them over with straw or compost if it is really frosty later on.

I did store carrots one year in boxes of soil but they did deteriorate anyway.
You do get pest damage in the winter - I don't know if clamping carrots in the garden makes pest damage less likely - anyone tried it?
