Hi there

Is it possible to use artificial grass in the chicken run?

While the weather has been bad we've been moving the coop around the garden but we're running out of grass.  Ideally I want to find a permanent place for the coop and run but it just doesn't seem possible because within days it gets too muddy.

I thought if I could use artificial grass it could easily be washing and my chickens would be happier out of the mud.  If its not possible to use artificial grass can anyone suggest what I could use?

I would say probably not at artificial grass is plastic or a plastic derivative and therefore not a good idea for your birds as they would peck at it not knowing any different.

I have mine on mud, but with perches and 'toys' to keep them entertained, at the moment due to the weather but will be getting some bark soon. I am planning on moving their run so I'm not doing too much work until the weather is better.

I would agree that artificial grass is probably not a good idea.
