Lack of eggs and artificial autumn/spring

OK so the nights drawing in makes your chuck give up laying unless you have hybrids and some pure breeds.
You can get they auto dimmer switches to make a chicken think its lighter later, but its expensive.  The cheepest option I have found is this.
CR0015 - 2 Output Cyclical Night/Day Lighting Controller

Has anyone got any cheaper alternatives?
Stuart

My early ducklings from the spring are laying an egg a day at the moment and I am hoping they will keep going through the winter as the rest have given up entirely. If previous years are anything to go by they will keep going throught till next autumn but only in this their first year. The rest will start up feb time. Just means I have to add a couple of early ducklings every year!
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

A low wattage light bulb and a time switch is all I use :)  Keeps them laying and me happy ..... keeps the quail laying too :)
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!
