Took it out the pot and seemed moist. I did put plenty of rotting leaves in there to retain moisture. The shoot that easily fell over was rotting at the base. I did mulch it over too. It's now planted in the soil so will wait and see. It's Victoria variety.

Ah... Never mulch OVER the crowns, only around the plant.  This could have been your problem !
