alpine strawberries

Alpine strawberries, Mignonette to be precise. What sort of size do they grow to so I know what pot to put them in. The packet says leave 12" either way think thats a bit genourous, maybe they spread when not in a pot? Are they smaller plants than elsata or that type of strawberry.
