Nothing to do with growing but I find the tiling forums too hostile to venture such a simple question :D
I am tiling a small section of my outside loo, just the back wall and two sides. The back wall is only about 36" wide. As it is so small, will I still have to attach a vertical batten as well as a horizontal one before starting to tile. I know it's desirable but is it necessary????
Thanks in anticipation

Just mark a plumb line up from the horizontal batten either in the middle, or where one of your tile edges is due to fall when you plan the tile layout :)
-
that's what I thought. I know a solid piece of batten would give me a good edge to start off from but I just wondered if the vertical batten was vital as I'm only tiling such a small area behind the loo. I've got my horizontal batten sorted :)
-
You've just got plan it so you don't end up with impossibly small bits of tile to cut. (Unless you're very good at cutting)
-
I have marked the centre of the wall and have made a tiling stick to show me how best to align my tiles across the wall to get even cuts at each side of the wall :)
-
You obviously do more planning than me ;)............I have been known to just start in the first corner that the eye sees and work away from that
-
Sounds like you've got everything covered CPQ. We'll be needing pics when it's done.
-
Yep photos are a must
-
Will do :D
-
I'm just impressed that you are bothering to tile the outside loo ;)

When's the official opening? Are we all invited to the P-free party
(Bring a bottle?)...... sorry :nowink:

:D :D :D
I was jumping the gun and forgot OH had to make the hole through the wall for the connection to the sewer pipe. He's done that now so I have the added frig factor of cutting tiles round it ::)
We didn't tile round the loo at our last house which I why I'm doing at this one. Boys will be boys >:(
-
this is it just before I put the final tiles in place around the sewer pipe. Can't take a pic at the mo as the kitchen fitter is in there installing cupboards and a sink etc in the utility part of the job :)
I got some tile edgings but I chickened out as being too difficult for me :D
-
Looks a very good job!
Training avoids the need for us to have "splash backs" in our bathrooms. ;)
-
To be honest I suggested a urinal
-
That looks very good indeed.
-
Here it is now it's in and plumbed with chrome pipe :D It goes left and into the utility bit where we've a sink unit installed
-
Sooo posh :) cost more than a penny to spend one in there, now it's finished ;)
-
Lovely job! :D
-
I'm really not keen on that dark grout though :D It looks mucky :nowink:
-
Do you mean around the floor tiles CQ? You could always change it in the future. ::)
:)
-
No I mean edging around the top and sides of the tiles. You can buy beading which you fix to the wall before offering the last row of tiles up to it. I didn't fancy cutting the angles so didn't bother. I don't think it matters and it will all look fine once the decorating is al done. I've still got to silicone around the bottom of the tiles where the wall meets to the floor. So, off to find the masking tape :D
-
I know the stuff you mean CQ, I've got close connections to the trade. ;) I think it all looks neat and new and once you've finished off the final bits of tidying... perfick! :)
-
It's never ending. We have the bathroom in the house in bits and my husband was re-installing a loo at gone eleven pm >:(
-
A very tidy job, I'll know who to send for now
-
I'm still going :D We're doing the house bathroom now :)

Many years ago when my parents moved into a brand new chalet bungalow my sister's idea was to call the place "Twoloos" - a novelty having more than one
Their new address was eventually named "Two Ways" as it was on the corner of two lanes.
-
:D Or Tolouse ;)
I am on the next leg of the outside loo utility and have today ordered the tiles for the utility bit, above the sink and around the window reveal. Erk. Bit worried about tiling this myself
I have ordered some lovely tiles from the local shop. They're Fired Earth pink melange and are the loveliest soft shades of lilac, pinks and creams, very pale and understated. My husband over-reacted when I said pink. Men :nowink:
