anyone tried slug wool? seems a logical option to me and fairly cheap too.
-
think I'd nip along a pull wool off the barbed wire first before i splashed out.
Let us know what the product looks like, as we have some well hard determined slugs round here.
-
gonna give it a try, my cabbages have loads of holes in atm and slug pellets dont seem to make a difference.
-
Its name does not give the best impression. :?
-
i will be shaving the dogs soon - i normally let the wild birds have the hair - but i'll post some if you like
-
What about using bran? Has any one out there had success? I'm told they head straight for it and that it bloats them to death! If it does that would certainly do it for me. Jan
-
I donno, in my little brain, when i tried this one year, the birds eat them all before any slugs, might have been putting it out wrong time of day though. :?
-
the wool hasnt arrived yet, thought harrod horticultural where supposed to be prompt?
-
would my old Arran sweater chopped up work?
-
Just one point.
Your supposed to put them round the plant, what when you need to hoe?
Come spring and the weeds are rampant I can see them having to be replaced quite often.
-
apparently its an effective mulch so stopping the weeds, so they say, havent used it b4 but when i have i shall make a full report to the forum users :D
-
have weeded and applied the wool, also pulled off all damaged leaves and havent put any pellets down ( for benefit of totally organic growers).
let u know how i get on.
-
seems to be a roaring success, it works :D
no slug damage or holes of any kind..altho it was a tenner for the tub and that did 2 rows of cabbages.
so quite expensive, however there is a another company that do a product called growaid which looks the same and is cheaper.
so if u dont want to use slug pellets this is the thing....but slug wool and slug pellets will provide rock solid slug security i`m thinking :D
cheaper version here that ive not tried but it looks exactly the same at half the price.
